Casa Mea owns a large house with 5500 square meters of land in Prejmer, Romania. This house is licensed as a home for twelve orphaned and/or abandoned children. Casa Mea provides a loving, family environment. These children come to Casa Mea, and may stay until they become adults and are ready and want to move out into the world on their own.
The house was an old working farm house. In addition to housing a three generational family, it also housed several chickens, cows, and pigs and had its own hay loft. When you enter the gate onto Casa Mea’s property there is a central courtyard. The main house is on the right. It has 6 living areas and 5 bathrooms, 2 storage areas, and a mudroom. The attic has 4 rooms and two bathrooms which houses Casa Mea's school. Also the main house has an office, a laundry room, a bunk house for short term volunteers and a small apartment. On the left side of the courtyard there is a two car garage and a smaller house which is used as a summer kitchen and a storage area for tools and garden implements. The courtyard has a fenced play area for the smaller children whereas the huge barn at the end of the courtyard is an indoor sports arena/play area for the older children. Behind the barn is a large vegetable garden and field.
Renovations on the main house started in June of 2004. Since that time, the house has undergone significant structural and functional changes. As a result of these changes, in January 2007, Casa Mea’s house was accredited as a home for children by the local Romanian authorities and in the spring of 2007, Casa Mea received its license from the national Romanian authorities to operate a home for children.
